Milos, the island of cats

One cannot go to Greece and not check out one of the islands. Even though it is October and the end of tourist season, we still wanted to avoid the more touristy islands of Santorini or Mykonos, so we opted for the island of Milos. This island boasts several beautiful, rocky beaches, amazing views from above, lots of tiny churches and thousands of stray cats. We ended up renting a car to get around and were able to go explore all the island’s nooks and crannies. Though the lack of tourists was a definite plus, it is very windy here in October which kind of was a damper, but the temps were still comfortable, making it overall a great choice of location to go to and not a bad place to spend my birthday!

We stumbled upon a cemetery which interesting. The graves were all above ground and had these little shrines to the deceased.
These are the remains of an ancient Roman theater. They are located near the place where the Venus de Milo statue was discovered.
These ancient Christian catacombs are one of the three oldest in the world!
I mentioned churches and amazing views. Here are a few
Sarakiniko Beach is probably the most beautiful and popular on the island
Papafragas Caves and an site of ancient ruins (I couldn’t get too close to learn more)

I mentioned this island was the home of thousands of cats. They were EVERYWHERE! But the people treat them really well by keeping them fed and just letting them hang out.
Tsigrado Beach – Had to take a very scary ladder path to get down to it. The climb was worth it but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t terrified the whole time!
